About us

Moorsweb is an innovative provider of rural broadband services to memebers of our community group,  via a wide area outdoor wireless network,  and a fibre gateway to the public internet.

We're a well-established group who have been operating since 2006.

Background
• The Moorsweb broadband service has been running since 2006.
• The service is basically an outdoor wide area wireless of wifi network based on radio technologies
• The service began with a satellite backhaul connection to the public internet, but now uses a to fibre optic connection provided by NYnet/NYCC at Gillamoor school, while still using bonded telephone lines for Rosedale.
• Moorsweb currently serves about 150 members in Bransdale, Farndale, Rosedale, Gillamoor Rudland, Beadlam/Skiplam Rigg and Appleton

Moorsweb was originally set-up with the benefit of a Yorkshire Forward Grant for rural broadband.  Most recently a grant from NYCC / NYnet has funded a fibre backhaul facility and a significant upgrade for part of the network.  We are currently working to raise funding to extend the same level of service to Rosedale.

Organisation

Moorsweb is overseen by a committee elected at the AGM in the spring of each year.   All subscribing members are invited to the AGM,  to volunteer for the committee,  and to vote at the AGM.

The Moorsweb committee meets regularly,  and delegates the day to day managment,  administration & technical support to Barry Sunley of Farndale Free Range Ltd,  whose contact details are given to the left.
